I wanna try the virtual manipulatives using BRaining Camp. This will definitely be very useful.

You can grab a trial at http://www.brainingcamp.com

Also check out the Toolkit page of the Academy as we often have special codes for Brainingcamp in there!

I’m glad you showed how to use some of Brainingcamp manipulatives because I’m struggling to find tutorials on using them as nicely as you guys do.

I would love to use brainingcamp.com, but I see that the redeem code has expired and I do not think I will be able to use the pay version. Do you know of any free resource that has similar capabilities?

I think they still have a month trial on their website. Otherwise maybe check out learningcenter.org or mathies.ca as they both have free virtual manipulatives.

Really wish I had access to Brainingcamp… the redeem code has expired…If I pay the $59 I can really only use that myself, I guess? I applied for a grant for physical manipulatives for my students to have at home during remote learning, but that may not happen…if it does happen…until November!

Consider the Math Learning Center digital manips in the place of Brainingcamp. They are pretty good, too!

These are a few basic virtual manipulatives shared by my district. This one slide would be easy to drop into any slide show for students to quickly access!

I am really excited to use the virtual manipulatives. Is there another website that has a free option if our school cannot purchase this?

The virtual manipulatives are great. If we have to go back to teaching online I definitely want to use Brainingcamp.

I tried to use Braining Camp before you demonstrated. I was really impressed with how you decomposed the base ten block. I hope our principal buys this for the school. We really need to have students have access to the manipulative even if they are remote learning.

I like the Braining Camp manipulatives. I am definitely going to check this out! Another take away is allowing the students to share their screen and show how they solved the problem. When I did something similar to this in-person, students always wanted to share their strategy. Virtually students get excited over the idea of sharing their screen because they have seen their teacher do this. I’m going to try to have my students start sharing their screen more to show me how they solved a problem instead of just telling me and I model.

So key is using student generated solutions. Later in the online workshop we will discuss how you can select and sequence through Peg Smith’s 5 practices to avoid turning the consolidation into a giant class wide “show and tell”
