Salting the Driveway

In this unit, students will explore dividing fractions conceptually through the context of using a fraction of a bag of salt to de-ice a fraction of a driveway, leaving students to ponder how many bags of salt are needed to de-ice the entire driveway. This context will emerge dividing a fraction by a fraction through partitive division, and reveal connections to scaling a ratio on a numberline or in a ratio table.
