## Intentionalityâ€¦

The purpose of these activities is to reinforce key concepts from the second Spark.Â

Educators can choose some or all of the activities shared below to use during small group, whole group, or individually with students.

Students will practice and become more familiar with the 10 frame as a tool to support their learning and will have an opportunity to investigate how numbers are related to 5 and 10 as achors.Â

The math talk and purposeful practice serve to develop a deeper understanding of the following big ideas.Â

• Develop an understanding of quantity and numerical relationship to 10
• Develop an understanding of how a 10 frame allows them to communicate their understanding of numbers (e.g., more and less, how many more and less)
• Develop their ability to use a 10 frame to support them in counting and organizing their counting
• Learn how to represent different quantities using a 10 frame as a tool
• Numbers can be taken apart (decomposed) and put together (recomposed).Â
• We can use objects, pictures, symbols, and/or words to represent number and quantity.
