    Wondering how to get every student motivated

    I do a lot of inquiry-based math lessons and I vary my instruction. Students are encouraged to find different ways to solve problems and, of course, are praised. Last year, I was able to get every student involved in almost every lesson. They were so excited. This year…not the same! I have a few students who still wait for the students they think are the “smartest” to give their response, refuse to write anything down, and just don’t participate. I want to make sure this doesn’t happen next year…wondering what strategies others use to encourage participation from every student.
