Your why is a fundamental question that needs to be asked repeatedly. The answer is what drives us forward. The answer is what fuels us to walk into the classroom or turn on that video camera, or sit down with that student, or meet with that parent.

I am a creative person and I need to be creative in order to find teaching exciting. My new administration is locking down on rigor, I suppose it’s due to anxiety of COVID and kids falling behind. Drill and kill is killing me and the students right now. Just doing the few exercises that I learned in the summit has already made math exciting. These ideas are progressive and why I teach at a progressive school.

What a challenge! I’m glad that you feel that the school culture will push through any short term mandates.

I wonder if you might be part of the spark to help admin and others understand that rigor doesn’t equal procedural…?
