Last week, my question would have been, “How do I help students make progress and make it stick in the short time I have with them?” This week it is, “How can I help students continue to make progress while they are not in school (and may or may not have reliable access) during this unusual time?”

Google Classroom has been pivotal for staying in touch with my students. I was fortunate in that it was already a supplementary tool for my classroom, but now it is my primary source for staying connected with students and parents. My district has, yet, to provide guidance on how we are to continue instruction while living under State-mandated closure for at least the next two weeks, but I’ve stayed in contact and provided supplemental online resources. I’m posting low stakes resources in small doses to students and families, as well as, just letting them know that math progress may not be their priority right now and that’s okay and I’m here if they need me.
