I’m curious about what you mean by spiraling a 6th grade math class. Usually when I think of a spiraled curriculum, it involves topics recurring and deepening understanding from one year to the next rather than within the same year.
Anne, if you look at the mini-course on spiraling, Jon and Kyle advocate for spiraling within the same year. Basically taking the units that are covered in the course and arranging them as you said, so they reoccur and get deeper every time they come up. It’s something I want to implement too, as it seems to have demonstrable results. It’s basically an application of the research on interleaving.
