I am looking to create a classroom where discussions are the norm.   Arguments even.  Math fights if you will.  I’ve had a goal for so long to help my students become better problem solvers and I feel as if I’ve made no progress with my present assignment.  Toward that goal of math discussions:

    1.  Plan with intent.  Search the academy for help in this area by looking for a good lesson plan template for creating low floor high ceiling problems.

    2.  Use pairs and/or groups way more often, and teach my paras what to look for when strolling the room observing

    3.  Use vertical white surfaces and get kids used to describing their thinking to all of us.

    4.  Put a reminder in my phone to get back to this log weekly to report on my progress.

Great goals here! There’s a boatload of big ideas here that I love! @Jon and I are all about building resilient problem solvers, so that’s awesome. We have some more templates coming to help you with your progress here. Currently, in our online workshop we run in the spring/fall, we go pretty deep with these ideas.

I also love the idea of using a reminder in your phone as that is so helpful to build a healthy habit of routinely accessing the PD content online!
