Hello all! I teach in a private grade 7 – 12 school, teaching 7th graders, juniors and seniors the past few years. I was the department chair for 7 years, but have stepped away from that role. I am currently mentoring a new teacher through our Teaching Fellows program. I have taught in my current school for 16 years, and taught in a public school in Seattle, WA, for 5 years prior to that. I joined the MMM Academy because I continue to look for ways to make my classroom more interactive, learner-centered, and problem-based. I found the podcast and have been enjoying listening to that.

My school is pretty traditional, and our classes are short. I work hard to focus on sense-making and not just procedure-mimicking, but I fall way short of making my lessons primarily problem-based.

Welcome to the community my friend!

I think so many can relate about wanting math class to be more than mimicking, but wow is it much more challenging than anyone would expect.

Have you taken a dive into the problem based units area? learn.makemathmoments.com/tasks

We are happy to have you here 🙂
