I teach 8th grade math in Portland, Oregon.  I’ve been teaching at the same school since 2001.  I joined the academy after participating in the virtual summit this past weekend.  I struggle with: 1) not “having enough time” to fit in all the expected content,  2) pushing my more “traditional” department (PLC) to try new things vs. going rogue, and  3) taking all the great ideas like Open Middle problems and number talks, and putting them into my units/lessons so that there feels more like there is a flow instead of my current feeling of a hodge podge (so…I guess that ties to my confidence of implementation as well).

    Hi Karen

I hear what you are saying about trying to fit all the curriculum in and trying to work with the “traditional” ways compared to what studies have shown to work. I am hoping that some of these issues can be solved for me as well.
