MJ's Progress Log
My goal is to work on student mindset about mathematics. I find that there are many students that reach 8th grade and they have become haters of math and math class. They believe that if they do not “get it” the first time or that if they feel confused or make a mistake that they are not good at math. I ask students if they came to school to do work they already know how to do or to learn something new? Confusion means that you are grappling with a new idea which means you are learning something new. Isn’t that great!?
I plan to provide students with learning targets that they will monitor themselves in order to be reflective about their own learning. It is not about a test; it is about learning. Do you know it? Do you know it all the time or just right now? Can you prove to me that you know it? How will you prove it to me?
