    Hi everyone!

My name is Ann Elise Record and I live in beautiful Concord, NH.  I have been an educator for 18 years now as a 5th grade teacher, Math Specialist K-5, Elementary Representative for the NH Teachers of Math, adjunct faculty member for Plymouth State University and am now an elementary math consultant.  In  my new role as consultant this year, I work part time for Christina Tondevold’s Build Math Minds professional development community developing content videos, present seminars for the Bureau of Educational Research, work with teachers monthly in schools in NYC, and consult with schools primarily so far in the implementation of Dr. Nicki Newton’s Math Running Records and developing our students off with foundational strategic thinking. Dr Nicki has been my other math mentor and she and I have a book coming out this fall called Fluency Doesn’t Just Happen which explores addition and subtraction strategies for basic facts. The power in them is that the very same strategies used for basic facts are then applied to make nearest 10, nearest 100, and even nearest whole for fractions and decimals.  So cool!

I have been an avid follower of a few math podcasts, MMM being one of them.  While I’m able to do middle school level math, I need to deepen my content and pedagogical knowledge for grades 6-8 so that I would be able to teach the concepts with conceptual understanding.   I thought this community would be so valuable to me to continue on my learning journey.  I actually just returned from CAMT and caught a bit of Kyle’s presentation on strategies.  I know I’m in the right place!

    Welcome Ann,

It was great seeing you in our session at CAMT (Trouble maker at the back! lol).

We’re super proud that you’ve chosen to join our academy.

We’re big followers of Christina and Dr. Nicki too. Later this summer we’re interviewing Dr. Nicki for a podcast episode! Super Pumped.

We look forward to learning with you!
