Hi Everyone! From Nakusp, BC
I am currently teaching grade 5/6 in Nakusp, BC. I have been teaching for 13 years now. All of my classes have been multi grade, from k-4, and 3-7. I’m really enjoying a two grade split. Having gone through trying to teach from a textbook 5 different grades and failing, I have played around with many other ways to teach math while reaching learners at all levels. Teaching grade 5/6 isn’t too different than teaching 3-7 because of the diversity of students that often are in any class. This diversity of skills or foundations that students have can be the most challenging part of teaching math.
Last year I completed my masters with my final project based on growth mindsets in math. I continue to work with students to have a growth mindset and see math as enjoyable. I look forward to expanding my tools for teaching. Thanks for hosting!
