Hello from MN
Hi – My name is Joanne. I have a unique role in our district – I am the Gifted/Talented Coordinator, Title I Coordinator and the GOM (General Outcomes Coordinator) for my main responsibilties. I realized I needed to improve my math instruction when I moved into my new role seveal years ago and the students with whom I worked wanted (and needed) to know the why, not just the how.
Now I also support classroom teachers on improving their math instruction as well (although this isn’t formally a part of my role). Having resources available to help me improve my own understanding as well as that of my students and my colleagues, is so important. I am constantly on a journey to do better today than I did yesterday.
I have been teaching for about 22 years. Prior to this role I was a intervention specialist and before that I was a special education teacher. As I look toward the next step of my career, I am really interested in helping teachers improve their math instruction in the classroom and will see where things go.
