  • Hello from California!

Hello, I teach in Merced, CA and this is my first year as a 6th grade maths/science teacher. Math is my passion and I love helping students find their passion for maths. The year thus far has been an adventure being 100% distance/remote learning. In addition, the curriculum we use is not as conducive to our current framework. I am excited to learn from everyone here.

We are using CPM. The curriculum will be amazing once we are back in class with our students but I am confident that will not happen this school year. Pebble in my shoe… trying to figure out where I should really focus my attention in regards to standards to get the most bang for my buck. We are only focusing on a few standards this year and have been told to go deep in those areas. However, being new to 6th grade, I still worry about major gaps in their learning next year.

What are some big ideas that you really want them to have when they leave your class? What are a few that you know aren’t critical?
