Greetings from Virginia
I have been a 7th grade math teacher for about 12 years. Before that I taught 6th grade math and science for 5 years. I moved to Algebra readiness this year. My classes have at most 10 students. My course is to help fill in the gaps that students have and to prepare them to be successful when they get to Algebra 1. I now teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. These students for the most part do not like math and have not been successful in the regular classroom. This led me to look for alternatives. I am hoping I can reach them and help them to enjoy math by doing things differently. I have been listing to the podcasts for the past month or so and honestly I am overwhelmed. I have tried a few 3-act math tasks and did so-so with them. I am reading The Five Practices in Practice but am still struggling with figuring all this out which is why I joined this community and course.
