    I’m Nancy Yamagata and I live about 6 miles from the Mexican American border in Southern California in a suburb of San Diego County called Chula Vista. Anyone associated with the military knows this town because San Diego is home to a huge Navy base. I am a math teacher at a Continuation High School. I hope to design experiences for my students that helps them to grow their self-confidence around problem solving. Students arrive at my school with a multi-year history of failure in math and believe they aren’t “math people”. It is my goal to change that.
