  • Grading

I am in a conflict with parents and fellow teachers in regard to the 6th-grade grading criteria. This year, assessments are 90% of the grade and everything else accounts for 10% of the grade. I believe practice should not be penalized therefore want to limit the impact of completion grading. In elementary, grades are based on 50% assessments and 50% everything else. Am I too progressive?

    Hey there Velicia,

We too agree that completion should NOT be apart of a students grade. A grade should reflect the knowledge/understanding a student has on the content standards. Here in Ontario that is a province wide policy for all school subjects for all grades. Since our whole province is on board with that thinking it means you are not too progressive. So, for us basically assessments (product, observational, conversational) is 100% of the grade.
