One goal I have is to refine my role as a math specialist teaching lessons to classes K-5 throughout our school each week.

Another goal is to implement a curriculum for my students that will improve their likelihood of interacting with math and enjoying it.

Fantastic. In regards to your first goal, what does that look like / sound like currently?

The past four years I have taught as a part of our specialists rotation: P.E., Music, Library and Me! I was teaching 30-40 minute lessons once a week in all classes, K-5 at our school in order to provide classroom teachers with all of their planning time. We are a large school, 750 students and 35 teachers. I am funded by Title 1 but I haven’t taught small groups in a while! This year with remote learning, I am currently meeting on Zoom in the afternoon specials time with 2-4 classes at a time at grades 2-5. Our K and 1 students have a video lesson I prepare each week which their teachers post in Seesaw for them to do at any time during the week. We did briefly come to school for hybrid learning for three weeks and with that schedule I was seeing kids once every two weeks on a rotating schedule. It has been challenging to say the least! I really enjoy teaching math to all of the students and getting to know them, but it is harder to connect with students remotely, of course, and for the past few years I haven’t felt like I can support struggling students at all. All of our Title E.A.’s are serving students in reading. We do not have any for math support.
