Hi all, I’m starting a school that uses CPM Math, and I recently finished the CPM Implementation training. I’m just wondering what peoples experiences are with CPM.

A lot of what I heard abd experienced in the training lined up very nicely with what MMM talks about and what I read in my own research. It looks great, I think my biggest concern is that the tasks aren’t always the greatest, and the number of negative experiences I read about online, but it really seems like most of those experiences come from students that are frustrated they aren’t just being told what to do or from teachers that either don’t implement the program properly or teachers that that don’t believe in PrBL as a matter of principle.

I’d like to hear from the experience of people that DO believe that guided discovery is the best way to teach. What does CPM do well? What does it do poorly? What do I, as a second year teacher, and first year implementer of CPM need to be careful of?

Any input would be much appreciated!
