It was so helpful to follow along with the approach with an example in the webinar! Key take aways for me were to take children on a thinking journey by keeping curiosity around a bit longer and slowly guiding or prompting thought with questions/support as they explore their ideas. I can do this by starting with a word problem that has been reworded/reframed in a way that is accessible to them (simple words that make sense to them that I can elaborate on or extend as we go), withholding information
to build anticipation and get kids noticing and wondering and building on the models/strategies/thinking as we go to uncover big ideas or ‘truths’ about the math.
