Hi, I’m planning to use this task not this coming week, but the following week, which will be the second full week of Sept. 2020. My goal is two-fold to review solving proportions and to move us closer to solving equations. I’m also very interested to see what students will make of the double number line. We’re moving from number sense where I used 3 tasks to engage the kids around representations of number operations, especially multiplication, estimating, and rational v irrational numbers. Our next unit is solving equations. I plan to spend 2-3 sessions on this task. I am thinking about jumping in at the extension activity, how many scoops to make 55 glasses, because I teach 8th grade and most will immediately recognize the answer to how many scoops in 24 glasses. I will report back on how it goes!
