I’m Mary Schwartz from the Cincinnati OH area. I have a few roles at a small, private school. I am the Intervention Specialist for all subject areas and the advanced math teacher for grades 7-8. I am also the Case Manager of all students on IEPs (PreK-8) at the school.
I kind of fell into teaching Algebra as I was always in Special Ed (since the late 1980s!!). My second year at the school the principal mentioned to me that there was a need for someone to teach Algebra and he had heard that the students (and their parents) liked how I did math intervention. Would I be interested? I had never considered it before, but I thought what the heck and now 9 years later I’m still teaching one or two math classes each year and love it.
I’m always on the look out and in need of fresh ideas, inspiration, challenges to keep me on my toes when it comes to teaching. I’m a rather lazy person by nature if I let myself be and I don’t want my instruction to fall into the easy-way-out of just plugging through a textbook. I’m looking forward to gleaning as much as I can from the academy!
