    Do you think it matters which way kids approach this problem (using addition strategies or subtraction strategies)? This is where my lack of training becomes very evident. I’m listening to Pam Harris say that if a child us using additive thinking on a multiplication problem, for example, we should notice that and work to move that child to the next level of thinking. In this case, if a child is counting up from 3 to 11 and getting 8, would that be considered less sophisticated than finding the difference between 11 and 3? Or are all options equally good at this point?
