I don’t think I’ve ever focused on the difference between memorization and automaticity. It makes a lot of sense to me, and I’d like to focus on the latter. When students simply memorize facts or numbers, there is a disconnect, and more often than not it’s for the short-term, not the long-term. I’m hoping I can create more situations that build automaticity for my 3 three year old and my future fourth grade students.
