    I have had many students over the years come to my class, already able to see that dividing by ten is simply moving the decimal over. For the ones that didn’t know this, I just told them they could do that and moved on. I have never considered showing them a visual model of place value like this to show how that works. I teach high school, but during the quarantine I spend a lot of time with my daughter in 2nd grade adding and subtracting numbers using this visual model. I will definitely be doing some of this next year with my students. I am wondering how I can help some students build understanding while challenging other students in this process of visual models.
