    I totally agree about the concept of subtraction. Many of our young learners are focused on the take away or separating structure. Teaching the idea of compensation is quite complex with many of the students.

    I wonder how is subtraction taught in integers conceptually. Many of the students just do the algorithm without understanding.

    In the school where I teach, parents send their kids to extra Maths lessons such as Kumon or Eye Level. Once they get enrolled in these extra courses, their common mistake is missing out analysing the problems since these lessons are more of knowledge-based.
