    This video made me think of exploding dots which I was thinking to use with students at the beginning of the school year to help them gain an understanding of place value. Like you, I was taught in a procedural context so was content to just know the place value names and didn’t really have a sense of what they meant, so I’m constantly mindblown as I try to learn so I can teach for understanding. I’m happy to report I did not think they answer was 2 to the question at the end of the video! I think I’m altering my brain with these lessons 🙂

    I am still wondering if this is a concept that should be focused on in middle school, or if it is a concept students should already have firmly in place by grades 7 and 8.
