I really like the way you opened the activity with the numberline that was 0 to a trillion. It allowed me to think about how abstract certain quantities must seem to my students. I have very little experience with a trillion so it was hard for me to begin to quantify it in the beginning. I imagine it is the same way for our students when they are trying to think about 1,000 ; 10,000; 100,000 or a million. I teach fourth grade math and the concept that the value of digits increase by 10 times as you move to the left on a place value chart is a big concept in fourth grade. I think it is difficult for students to grasp the magnitude of those numbers–just as it was difficult for me to grasp the magnitude of a trillion especially in comparison to a billion.
