    This video made me think about the importance of moving from concrete to pictorial to more abstract pictorial models before going to the abstract. It is so easy to just jump right to the abstract model but it’s important for students to see what they are doing first. It makes operations with fractions more conceptual for students. Also, I like the idea of using “fourths” instead of quarters to build the vocabulary of fifths, sixths, etc. from there.
