My biggest take away was not using pizzas! I learned using pizzas, I always had trouble representing fractions using pizzas, and I was teaching… wait for it… using pizzas! I love the idea of using a tray of brownies, and then manipulating the brownies into a number of different representations of the fractions so students could truly understand the information.
I wonder if students who have a stronger understanding of fractions, and the magnitude of fractions will have an easier time with understanding decimals, and their magnitude?
