A lot of teachers see an instructional coach as someone who’s job is to rationalize and implement pet projects and district decisions. Ask them what they want, and give it to them. Even if it’s silly like a Coke.
Treat them like reluctant learners in the classroom who have had sucky experiences in the past and don’t know how awesome you are. Start with building relationships.
Every teacher wants to grow, but they may have forgotten that part of themselves.
Scheduled observations where you only look and comment on what THEY want you to look at is helpful, too!
