Hey Rebecca! I have coupled spiraling with allowing students to correct their assessments and receive the points if they show understanding. I have noticed that without having one or two big “review days” to cram for an assessment, not all students score well. This doesn’t mean they don’t have a good seed of understanding, but they need more time. So I work with them or they get help to correct mistakes while we move on in class.
Also- I am expecting a possible lower overall achievement level (on state assessments) this year because I am learning LOTS about how to do this as I go along. I am not going to stress about it this year! I know this is a much better way to teach math and next year, my second time through, will really show it!
