Hi All, my name is Karen Coty, and I am a 6th grade math teacher at a middle school in Georgetown, Delaware.  I’ve been teaching 6th grade math for 10 years and still find it incredibly challenging!  I found the academy when I was searching for a podcast this summer and LUCKILY came across makemathmoments.com.  I started listening and haven’t stopped! I binge on it every time I get in the car (or clean the house).  I joined the academy after working through the 6 week workshop.  I didn’t want the learning to end.  I also look forward to the academy being my learning community.  I don’t feel like I have a learning community in my school or district yet.  The few teachers that I’ve talk to are afraid of changing their practice.  Their “test scores” are good, so in their mind, why fix what isn’t broken. I also think they are afraid to move away from the curriculum since our district is big on following the book “with fidelity”. I am excited to continue learning with you all!
