This year I’m coteaching a PreAlgebra course for freshmen at a high school. We’re basically using the method that Juliana described using her first couple of years that did not work (I do, we do, you do; lecture/notes, worksheets). I’d like to add some (if not all) of her 4 elements for successful math intervention. I really like element #2 – incorporate a quick math win daily like which one doesn’t belong or same vs different. I incorporated this into a class I taught on my own last year and am inspired to incorporate it into our routine this year with my coteacher. I also liked the idea of cold call popsicle sticks or cards to make participation the norm.
