(This is more of reflection as we are currently in summer and it is hard to do all the call to action pieces without students)
I don’t usually think about all the principles of counting, yet in college one of my favorite classes (and toughest) was combinatorics. It all came down to a deep understanding of how to count and quantities of numbers relate to one another. In a high school setting, teaching juniors, we often see this lack of number sense. I really enjoyed using some of the tools presented here with my Freshmen, but it was a lot tougher to bring it back down to basics with the juniors taking Algebra 2 when their “math facts” foundation was so fragile. I am excited to build these connections in the coming year from the first week of school.
