A takeaway I have is the idea that there are 22 tens in 228. I like the distinction that the the digit in the tens place is 2 but the actual number of tens is 22. Also I like the connection to division, 228 divided by 10 is 22 with a remainder 8, or 8/10. This reminds me of James Tanton’s exploding dots which is also a very good conceptual way to understand place value.
