    Well said, especially with what you said about the story problems, just because they’re in math class they might go to that surface level thinking of “do I add/subtract, etc.?”, but almost having them consistently ask “What is the goal of what I’m trying to figure out? How can I get there? What strategies could help me approach that?” That is what leads into the multiple strategies, and then deciding what will bolster effectiveness and efficiency… they need to see the purpose and conceptual nature behind having fluency first.
