    I was looking at Rice Ratios. I spend a lot of time on recipe tasks (we scale up a pancakes recipe so it will feed the whole class). These kinds of tasks tend to also make for at-home connections as many students have cooked or baked with their family. I think that I would not modify the task–instead I need to have more problem based lessons and repeat some of the same types of lessons so that students have many opportunities to build understanding and practice with concrete, to double number line, to equation (and all the other steps in between.)
