One take away I have is not to share the learning goal at the start of the lesson. I’m wondering how we can break more educators of this habit as we have been so conditioned to do so. I have noticed this year as we use the Thinking Classroom model and many of the Making Math Moments tasks in the classroom that many of the students are more engaged and willing to persevere through difficult tasks when their curiosity is sparked as to just what the learning goal is. As a special education teacher, I am enthralled to see so many of my resource students so engaged, when they have a history of checking out during math class. I’d like to be able to see this replicated across other content areas.
