This is super tricky for sure. Ensuring they have a deep understanding of what fractions are including the language for each fractional amount, you might write it with the count and a unit fraction. For example, 3 fourths, 2 thirds, etc.
once they are comfortable at this stage, you can begin slowly introducing the symbolic representation but always use them all interchangeably. Don’t move away from this forever.
