So many eye opening moments! I especially appreciated the double number line and how it nicely transfers to a ratio table. (Maybe from Module 5 onwards?) While we don’t really deal with ratio tables in Grade 5, using double number lines when problem solving would certainly help students transition later on. To be truthful, I’ve always thought of number lines as superfluous before this course. I’m definitely going to incorporate them into my teaching much more from now on.
I also appreciated the distinction between additive and multiplicative thinking. This has changed my understanding around how students progress along the continuum of mathematical reasoning and how to recognize where students are at and how to nudge them towards the next step. Very valuable!
