I also am feeling like I have a better understanding of composed units and multiplicative comparison. My students are starting work on similar triangles, and I think initially I might have viewed those as a multiplicative comparison because with the scale factor you can compare the size of one to the size of the other, but now I am thinking of each of the sides as a different unit, so I think you could also view this as a composed unit. I feel that I now now have a better vocabulary and more depth as I think about these comparisons.
I do want to try the rice task with my students but I wonder if you have more resources to teach similar figures or scale factors. Thanks!
