In approaching this task, my first learning objective will be to have students demonstrate multiplicative thinking (and extending their application of multiplication beyond the 3 or 21 glasses). I’d also like to have students demonstrate the link between multiplication and division using this task, especially at the beginning. And now I am not sure if I want to use the first question (from lesson 1) or the second (from lesson 2). If I start with lesson 2’s question, then I could prompt them to link division and multiplication, but then extend their thinking about multiplication into larger scenarios using the rate of 3 spoons per glass.
