    I really like that a problem that worked for 1st grade could be used in middle school and the difficulty could be moved up pretty quickly to investigate different representations of proportional relationships (7th grade, for example). I think that the connection between the double number line and the ratio table is really helpful for me, as I want to work on how to find the constant of proportionality with my students right now, which is easier (often) to see in the form of a table, rather than the double number line. But I think making those connections between different forms and representations helps students to be more flexible with their mathematical reasoning. If a table doesn’t work for you, make a double number line!
