    I don’t always think to give out manipulatives to my 8th graders for this type of question. But I now see the need for some of my students to have a more concrete way of thinking about this question. I don’t think all my students would be able to go to a number line when their understanding of factions is very weak. But this might give them a better insight to both fractions and their meaning as well as proportional thinking.
