Build Your Mathematics Program Like a Strong, Healthy and Balanced Tree with Research Informed Strategies That are Accessible, Equitable and Sustainable over time.

In this course we’ll focus on the Roots of your tree: Mathematics Content Knowledge & Proficiency.

The roots of the tree represent mathematics content knowledge and what it means to be mathematically proficient. If we are facilitating our classroom math program without having a deep understanding of mathematical content knowledge and an understanding of what it means to be mathematically proficient, the tree will not receive the necessary water and nutrients to thrive.

If we strive to develop a truly engaging mathematics program that promotes the strengthening of student mathematical understanding, we must ensure we are positioned to do so. This begins with understanding what it means to be mathematically proficient and engaging in opportunities to develop our own mathematics content knowledge.

We’ll need to dedicate time, resources, and build habits to grow our own mathematical roots that stretch deep and wide. We need to seek out ongoing opportunities to solve mathematics problems, co-plan lessons and moderate student work so we can builds our confidence, understanding and excitement to support all students in our ever increasingly diverse classrooms.

Make Math Moments helps you understand what it means to be mathematically proficient through this online platform of professional learning including over 60 problem based units of study with full facilitator guides and a community to help you gain a clear vision of what it means to develop mathematical proficiency for all students and adults and at any age.

We work with you to know, understand and integrate the five strands of mathematical proficiency with your students:
